Supported by 25 different labor, teachers’ and medical organizations and bar associations, the demonstration will be staged on December 30 to oppose the wheel-jam strike and country wide protest against any change to Blasphemy laws, announced by some people in Pakistan. Marvi Sirmed, one of the conveners of the Parade Ground “We think it is very very important to come out in whatever numbers we are in and display our token defiance against an increasingly extremist mindset. If we are not rising up against it now, then when? There’s no fun in sitting our cozy offices, ranting on FB and Twitter against injustice, demanding everything from the political parties who have to go back to masses. Masses, who will be seen shouting slogans against any change in Blasphemy Laws. Where is our voice then? Who wins parliament’s support? Why leave people like Sherry Rehman alone, who have come forward bravely? Let’s help them, that’s why we have decided to take this challenge.”
