MUSHAWARAT CONDEMNS STATE TERROR AND VENDETTA IN BANGLADESH

New Delhi, 2 March 2013: President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, the umbrella body of Indian Muslim organisations and eminent personalities, Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan, condemned here today the unjust verdicts being passed by the controversial “International Crimes Tribunal” in Bangladesh and the daily toll of dozens of protesting civilians being mowed down by the trigger-happy Bangladeshi security forces.
Dr Khan said that the verdicts passed by the controversial and discredited tribunal, based on highly exaggerated and fictitious accounts, are a travesty of justice as cases have been opened after four decades in what is a clear political vendetta and attempt to silence political opponents using sham legal processes and pliable judges.
Dr Khan called on the Bangladesh government to rethink its diabolical strategy which will only lead to a civil war and a very protracted friction in the Bangladeshi society. This schism will hamper Bangladesh’s economic, social and political progress and will blacken Bangladesh’s name and standing in the comity of nations. The sooner these sham verdicts are cancelled and the controversial tribunal abolished the better for the future of Bangladesh.
