THIRD INTERNATIONAL PEACE FESTIVAL 2010
The event will include eminent singers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, poetry readings, audio-visual presentations and speeches from the South Asian and Canadian community leaders. More than 500 participants are expected to take part in this event.
Keeping the tradition this festival is being held in honour of renowned Urdu poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, an artist who embodied the ideals of a generation breaking from colonial domination. The evening is a tribute to his poetry and reflects his deep concern of the experience of individual humans in his life-long journey of democratic and progressive struggle.
The South Asian People’s Forum (SAPF), the organization hosting the event, is a progressive, democratic, and secular forum, which aims to empower the people of South Asia across borders in an era of increased military intervention, declining civil rights for women and men, and increased ethnic divisions between peoples. SAPF builds alliances with individuals and groups to share information, present speakers and facilitate discussions, intervene in the public sphere, and organize in communities in Canada and internationally.
Participants would also include Eminent singers, performers, writers, journalists and political activists from South Asia and Canada
